Debbie has resided in ²Ýݮֱ²¥ since 1982. Together with her husband, Andrew, she has raised three sons, all of whom attended school in ²Ýݮֱ²¥. Debbie has a long history of commitment to her school district and community. In her early years, she helped found a child disability parent support group and served for four years as the PAC chair at Westwind Elementary. Debbie was first elected to the board in 2002.

Debbie also serves on various committees for the ²Ýݮֱ²¥ Sunrise Rotary and as a Sunday school teacher at her church. Her long-standing community involvement earned her a nomination for ²Ýݮֱ²¥ Volunteer of the Year in 2007; the Ethel Tibbets award in 2009; and a Rotary Paul Harris Award in 2018. In her spare time, she runs half marathons, bikes, and utilizes her accounting skills at her family's insurance agency in ²Ýݮֱ²¥.

Debbie originally sought election to the Board in 2002 over her concerns about proposed budget cuts and how they might impact the district. She wanted the district to find ways to maintain the elementary band program and minimize the impact on students with special needs. While serving on the board, she has advocated for stable funding and assessment practices and programs to help struggling students improve their literacy skills and increase their level of achievement. She is also a strong advocate for mental health supports and programs for young people.

Debbie believes her strength as a trustee lies in her ability to listen to concerns and approach each issue with an open mind. She also makes each decision in a calm, reflective manner. Her principle-centred leadership allows her to make difficult decisions when called upon, always putting the student first.
